LeBron, Durant declared NBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK: Staggering and match-winning performances have earned LeBron James of Miami Heat and Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City Thunder the glory of becoming the NBA Players of the Week 1.

LeBron James has been named as the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week 1 while Kevin Durant has been declared as the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week 1 after both players showed excellent display of basketball during the first week of the abbreviated NBA season.

The Miami Heat are off to an ideal start to the NBA 2012 as they have won all of the five games which also included a morale-boosting victory over the Dallas Mavericks, who had defeated Heat in the NBA Finals 2011.

LeBron James is in an awesome point-scoring form and in best shape for the season as he has an average of 29.6 points per game as well as stealing at an average of 2.40 steals per game. He was not lesser than anyone when it comes to assists as the best player in the Eastern Conference for NBA’s first week has an average of 6.6 assists per game.

The best part of LeBron’s form is that he has scored 34 or more points in three of the five games which also included 37 points against Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day, when the NBA 2012 swung into action after an extended LockOut.

On the other hand, Kevin Durant has also matched LeBron James very well in performance as his team Oklahoma City Thunder has got off to a brilliant start as well winning all the five games they have played thus far.

Kevin Durant is just a touch lower as compared to LeBron James when it comes to scoring points but nobody in the Western Conference matched his stats as he has an average of 27.4 points per game, the second best in the season so far. Moreover, Kevin has shooting of .547 from the field and .500 from beyond the arc.

The best part of his performances so far is the fact that he has scored over 30 points in four of the five games that the Oklahoma City Thunder have played. Kevin also secured a double-double — 30 points and 11 rebounds — in a 104-102 win against the Dallas Mavericks on December 29, 2011.

Apart from LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Kyle Lowry of Houston Rockets, Roy Hibbert of Indiana Pacers, Carmelo Anthony of New York Knicks, Kevin Love of Minnesota Timberwolves, Dwight Howard of Orlando Magic, and Steve Nash of Phoenix Suns were also in the hunt for the best Eastern and Western Conference players.

Let’s take a detailed look at the three best performances of the two top NBA players of the Week 1.
