The match went right to the wire when forward Yi Jianlian scored from a free throw with only seven seconds into the final buzzer which gave China the 70-69 victory and with it the Asian title.

Yi was in good point-scoring form as he piled up 25 points in front of the packed home crowd and helped the hosts win their 15 Asian basketball title.

This is the first time China have won the title since their superstar Yao Ming took retirement from international basketball in July thus indicating China are on the right path to become regional basketball superpower.

China never needed their NBA superstar Yao Ming as they looked the stand out team in the competition.
