Hyderabad wins Quaid-e-Azam Judo Championship
KARACHI: Hyderabad has won the All Sindh Quaid-e-Azam SSB Judo Championship by bagging 50 points.
In the final events held at Sindh Sports Board Sports Complex Nazimabad the other day, Karachi finished second while Sukkur ended third by securing 40 and 20 points respectively.
In juniors category, Hyderabad won the trophy by securing 25 points while Sukkur and Karachi got second and third positions by securing 20 and 10 points each.
In women’s championship, Karachi won the trophy by securing 50 points while Hyderabad got second position with 30 points and Sukkur placed at third position with a total of 20 points.
A total number of six districts from across Sindh province participated in the event including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Larkana and Nawabshah in ten weight categories, i.e. 45, 48, 50, 52, 56, 57, 60, 66 and 73 kilogram and open weight.
Karachi’s Abu Hurera Dhanani, Hyderabad’s Muhammad Dawood, Muhammad Asif, Bilal Qureshi and Muhammad Arif, Sukkur’s Abdul Moiz won gold medals while Karachi’s Sundas Salam, Eeman Riaz and Madiha Ahmed and Mirpurkhas’s Aisha won gold medals in women’s events.
Sindh’s Sports Minister, Dr Muhammad Ali Shah distributed awards among the winning teams.
President Sindh Judo Association Waseem Hashmi, Deputy Commissioner Central Matanat Ali Khan and SSB’s Consultant Raziq Ali Rabbani were also present at the prize distribution ceremony.
The Minister said on this occasion that Sindh government would continue to support judo in future as well. He said that Judo is an ideal game for the self-defense and youngsters should avail the training facilities offered by the Sindh Judo Association. He also congratulated the organizers for holding a successful event.
Waseem Hashmi announced in his address to hold similar events in other cities of the province in order to hunt best talent.
Secretary Sindh Judo Association, Muhammad Ali said that in future’s events junior championships would also be held in order to promote judo at grassroots level. He appreciated the services of referees Tariq Ali, Rafiq Bhatti and Chief Referee Amir Mukhtar of Pakistan Judo Federation.
