Pettitte retires from Major League Baseball

NEW YORK: The iconic pitcher of New York Yankees, Andy Pettitte, has discontinued his relation with the baseball and announced his retirement from the Major League Baseball here Friday.

Pettitte, who led the New York Yankees to five World Series championships, told the local media at a news conference Friday morning at Yankee Stadium, “I’m done with baseball. I’m going to not be pitching for the Yankees every fifth day anymore”.

Explaining his decision, Pettitte said that his heart was not where it needed to be therefore he has decided to call it a day and physical condition has nothing to do with it.

“The last four years at Yankees I can honestly tell you have been amazing,” he stated.

Pettitte, 38, joined the New York Yankees in 1995 and helped the team to clinch four World Series championships before moving to the Houston Astros in 2004 and then returned back to take the New Yorkers to another championship in 2009.

During the 16-year career, the left-arm pitcher played in eight World Series, seven for Yankees and one for Astros.

He represented Yankees for 13 years and played for Astros for three years and now leaves the Major League Baseball with an overall 240 career victories and a 3.88 ERA.

Pettitte also has the MLB record of 10 postseason wins and was a three-time All-Star, in 1996, 2001 and 2010, and was the most valuable player of the 2001 American League Championship Series.

Talking about giving time to his family, he said, “I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life. And right now I don’t want it to be anything except hanging out with my family.”
