Portland Trail Blazers put brakes on Memphis Grizzlies’ winning charge
PORTLAND: The 7-game winning run of Memphis Grizzlies at the NBA 2012 came to an end on Wednesday when Portland Trail Blazers defeated them by 97-84, thanks to brilliance of LaMarcus Aldridge who scored 23 valuable points.
The Grizzlies were looking all set to match their January 2004 tally of winning eight games on the trot when they opened the game but with the passage of time it was Portland Trail Blazers who got the upper hand and denied them their best winning spree.
It was the third quarter where Memphis Grizzlies failed to score freely and could only manage three field goals and this is where the Rose Garden Arena came to live as the local team managed to keep a lid on the visitors, who had defeated Golden State Warriors 91-90 on Monday to register their seventh win on the trot.
Aldridge, who is averaging 22 points per game this NBA season, looked in great form yet again for the hosts as he amassed 23 points while he received good bit of support from Jamal Crawford who added 15 points off the bench and center Marcus Camby also showed his mettle with 22 rebounds.
The Memphis Grizzlies, who were last beaten by Oklahoma City Thunder on January 10, 2012, could not sway away from the defeat in Portland despite of the fact that OJ Mayo scored 20 off the bench while Rudy Gay added 11 points to the tally.
