Texas Rangers into World Series for a second year on trot
ARLINGTON: The Texas Rangers stormed into World Series for the second consecutive year on Saturday when they outplayed Detroit Tigers 15-5 to win the best-of-seven American League Championship Series 4-2.
With this victory, the Texas Rangers have become the first American League team to make back-to-back World Series appearances since 1998-2001 when the New York Yankees made four trips on the trot.
In the World Series Finals, the Texas Rangers will meet the winner of the NLCS where the St Louis Cardinals are leading 3-2 over the Brewers. The next game is on Sunday (today) at Milwaukee.
The Rangers started celebrating their likely victory only in the third innings at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington where they scored nine runs to annul a 2-0 deficit and the players went berserk in the last innings after Michael Young caught Brandon Inge’s skyscraping hit at first base.
They players poured out of their dug-out and started hugging each other and tapping each other’s backs in the middle of the diamond besides spraying ginger ale.
In the presence of former United States of America President, George W. Bush, the Texas Rangers players were ecstatic in the middle especially outfielder Nelson Cruz who scored a playoff series record six home and 13 runs which also fetched him the ALCS Most Valuable Player Award.
The man of the moment, Cruz told reporters on the occasion, “The more you win, it’s getting more exciting. We’re back to the World Series, what more can we ask for?”
Michael Young was ecstatic after the victory after he played his part in the triumph with a home run. “It’s very sweet,” said Young, a 15-year veteran, adding, “We’re happy to be going to the World Series right now. But we have a lot of work to do. We’re happy, but we’re not satisfied.”
Ryan told the presentation party, “I couldn’t be prouder of this group of men who came together this spring with a mission with one thing in mind, that this is a stepping stone to what they want to get done and that’s to win a world championship.”
Manager Ron Washington had glowing attributes for his men. He stated, “We couldn’t have done it without the commitment and the way they grind every single day. All of us in this game know it’s not easy to get back to this point. I tip my hat to you. They believed in one another and they never cared who got it done as long as it got done. And that’s ‘team’ right there.”
