He was talking to media at the Karachi Airport, where he made a short stopover en route from Lahore to Dubai.

Zandi, who hails from Iran, was returning home after attending the 2nd Congress of Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF) held in Lahore the other day.

He was received by Rashid Ali Siddiqui, newly-elected President PSWF, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Awan, Secretary General, Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) and Sardar Khan, ex-President SJAS at the airport. A souvenior of SJAS was presented to Zandi.

He said that he was highly impressed with the standard of sports journalism in Pakistan and capabilities of sports journalists here.

“They are at par with highly qualified sports writers of other countries. They have good knowledge and command over their work,” he remarked.

He said that it was a good omen that sports journalists in Pakistan are united under the umbrella of PSWF. Now they can fight for their rights and solve the problems they face in discharging their professional duties, he added.

He said that he had enjoyed the hospitality of his sports journalist friends in Lahore and Karachi. “My stay in Pakistan was remarkable and memorable. They held their Congress successfully in which constitution of PSWF was passed unanimously. Under the new constitution, fresh elections were held in good spirit. Everybody respected his fellows,” he said.

Zandi felt sorry for former Secretary General, PSWF, Zahid Farooq Malik and said that it was good thing that he had accepted his fault for taking PSWF matter in court by offering unconditional apology and promised to withdraw the case.

“I have written my report to AIPS about that election. I hope ex office bearers would let the new body function smoothly and cooperate with the elected members,” he said adding that AIPS will fully cooperate with newly elected PSWF body.
