Felicity Aston becomes first solo woman skier across Antarctic

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina: Felicity Aston of Great Britain, on Monday, became the first woman skier to cross the ice-filled Antarctica.

The British adventurer, who was all alone during her bid to cross the chilly continent, made it in 59 days after she had started it on November 25, 2011.

Felicity Aston, during the course of her adventure in the glacier continent, kept pulling two sledges for over 1744 kilometers or 1084 miles after she began in at the Leverett Glacier last year.

While waiting for her flight in her tent, Felicity Aston told media about her achievement thru a live broadcast, “It feels amazing to be finished and yet overwhelmingly sad that it’s over at the same time”.

Twitter once again took the lead in winning confidence of the exquisite sportsmen as Felicity Aston also chose to tweet about her huge achievement.

Her tweet stated, “Congratulations to the 1st female to traverse Antarctica SOLO.V proud”.

During the course of these 59 days, Felicity Aston also achieved another world record of crossing the Antarctica, using only her force of muscles, all alone.

A team comprising both male and female skiers had previously skied across the Antarctica but Aston is the first woman who has this feat of doing the feat solo.

A student of physics and meteorology, Felicity Aston, 34, lives in Kent in England and has been associated with expeditions under-zero climate and also worked with British weather service at a base placed in Antarctica besides leading various teams of skiers to the Antarctic, the Arctic, and the Greenland.
