Hip surgery kicks Tyson Gay out for season
RALEIGH, North Carolina: The world’s second fastest man Tyson Gay has been ruled out for the whole season after the US world 100 meters silver medalist underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his injured right hip.
Tyson Gay’s manager said Thursday that following the arthroscopic procedure Tyson Gay would not be able to take part in any race this season.
Gay’s manager Mark Wetmore said in a statement that the world’s second fastest man underwent the surgery in Vail, Colorado on Tuesday.
He said, “The doctor was pleased with the outcome and believes Tyson will resume his normal base training in the fall as he prepares for 2012”.
Tyson Gay was looking to take on the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt of Jamaica in the World Championships in August but had to bow out from the US world trials 100 meters semifinals in May because of the hip injury which has been bothering him for quite some time.
Tyson Gay has now turned his focus to the next year’s 2012 London Olympics as he would like to take on Bolt after regaining his full fitness from the hip injury.
His doctor, Dr Marc Philippon said in a statement, “The procedure, which addressed an impingement in his hip, went just as expected – with no surprises or complications. Tyson is already doing range-of-motion, active rehabilitation and I expect him to resume normal training after six-to-nine weeks.”
