Jeremy Wariner to miss World Championship
RALEIGH, North Carolina: American former Olympic and world 400m champion Jeremy Warnier will miss this month’s World Championship in South Korea because of a foot injury.
The 27-year old, a key player in the US Olympic and world 4x400m relay wins, tore a ligament in the second toe of his left foot while training.
Jeremy said, “Right now my focus is to get healthy, to prepare for next season and try for my second 400m Olympic gold.”
The injury will not require surgery but will take at least 12 weeks to recover from.
Wariner, the world’s top ranked 400m sprinter in 2010, has been plagued by minor injuries. He has clocked the 12th fastest time this year, and was beaten in the US Championships that also doubles as the national world trials, by college athlete Tony McQuay.
At the Olympics in Athens 2004, Wariner won the 400m and the World Championships in 2005 and 2007. He was runner up to American LaShawn Merritt at the 2008 Olympics and 2009 World Championships .
Jeremy Wariner is expected to be replaced by fourth placed time trials finisher Jamaal Torrance of the US Team which take place between August 27 and September 4.
