Brazilian girls clinch Beach Volleyball World Championship title
ROME: Larissa Franca and Juliana Felisberta Da Silva of Brazil defeated two-time Olympic champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh of the United States to clinch the Italy World Beach Volleyball Worlds title here at the Foro Italico Tennis Stadium here Sunday.
This is the first World title for the Brazilian girls who outdid their American opponents by 21-17, 13-21, 16-14 ahead of a noisy but enthusiastic crowd at the Foro Italico Tennis Stadium.
The Brazilian girls jumped into each other’s arms as soon as they defeated the American duo as they heralded their dominance in the beach volleyball arena.
Top-seeded Franca and Felisberta Da Silva had all the reasons in the world to be excited as the title has come as a major breakthrough. The Brazilian duo had never won the title before and was runners-up in 2005 and 2009 and secured bronze in 2007.
Brazil was destined to win further glory later in the day as the men’s final will have both teams from Brazil. The second-seeded Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego are taking on third-seeded Marcio Araujo and Ricardo Santos for the Beach Volleyball World Championships title.
