Button cruises to glory in wild Canadian F1 GP
MONTREAL: McLaren Mercedes driver Jenson Button showed his class on Sunday to win the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix at the wet and wild Circuit Gilles Villeneuve here in Montreal.
In one of the most difficult races in recent times, Jenson Button kept his composure and concentration as well as his grip on the wet track of Montreal to overtake race leader Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull on the last lap to win the 42nd edition of the Canadian GP.
This was the first time that Jenson Button has won the Canadian Grand Prix and for doing that he shattered Sebastian Vettel’s dreams of record his sixth victory in seven races this year.
Sebastian Vettel, due to his only mistake in the final lap of the race, stood second while his teammate Mark Webber finished third to give McLaren two positions in the top three.
The 42nd edition of the Canadian Grand Prix was delayed for two hours by some heavy rains after which the drivers were made to exhibit their real skills and class to complete the race without getting collided with each other.
An excited Button couldn’t hide his emotions while crossing the line. He screamed with joy, “What a race. What a race. A fantastic win”.
The weathermen had already predicted a wet day at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but there was no calculation of how much it was going to downpour.
Television viewers had a torrid time following the Canadian Grand Prix who were made to wait for more than two hours watching wet circuit hoping to finally find some road-action.
