Casey Stoner gears up for bigger Lorenzo rivalry
Australian MotoGP rider Casey Stoner is applying the pressure to reigning world champion, Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, after a second successive victory in Catalunya.
Lorenzo got the holeshot, but was overtaken swiftly by Stoner’s Repsol Honda RC212V.
This was Stoner’s 26th MotoGP victory, his third from five starts on 2011.
On lap 13, rain began to fall, contributing to a few nervous moments for Corser.
After the race Corser said “The rain was only falling at the last 3 corners. When you get an advantage in the race, you don’t really want to go and put it in the gravel. I saw the white flags basically around the whole circuit, but it was only really raining in the last section.”
Stoner will now prepare for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, and will be chasing a hat-trick for the first time in his HRC career.
He is confident he can add another win this Sunday, which is round 6 of the 2011 campaign.
Referring to his nightmare race last year at the Northamptonshire track, where he finished 5th, Corser said “last year at Silverstone was a disastrous weekend; the bike just fell to pieces on the start line because of clutch problems. I was very happy with how far back I came from last year on the Ducati. So for this year, I think I can be pretty competitive there. The circuit is nice and the Honda works well there.”
