CARDIFF: Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that Asad Shafique and Mohammad Irfan will join the Pakistan squad in England next week for the five match one day series against host England.
Both players are currently in Sri Lanka and representing Pakistan A team. Asad scored a gutsy century against Sri Lanka A on Thursday and he gets his reward. Asad made his one day debut for Pakistan in Asia Cup against Bangladesh where he scored 17 runs.
A 6 feet 8 inch tall fast bowler Mohammad Irfan also earned a call to represent Pakistan national team. Irfan was also named in Pakistan’s squad for ICC World Twenty20 2010 by coach Waqar Younis and chief selector Mohsin Khan but later PCB chairman Ejaz Butt dropped him from the squad as his name was not included in the 30-man squad for the World Twenty20.
Both players will leave for England directly from Sri Lanka and join the team in next week. Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has decided to keep the squad with 15 players as it was initially heard that Yasir Arafat will also include in the squad to fill in the spot fixing trio (Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir).
Pakistan cricket team also facing injury problems as their star all rounder Abdul Razzaq yet to recover from his injury he suffered in solitary warm-up match against Somerset on Thursday. Pakistan team management cancelled their practice session on Friday. Pakistan will play first Twenty20 match against England on Sunday September 5 at Cardiff.
