Hong Kong Super 6s: England oust Bangladesh with 2-run win
KOWLOON, Hong Kong: England handed Bangladesh their second consecutive defeat as they won their match by only two runs in the Hong Kong Super Sixes Tournament at Kowloon Cricket Club ground on Friday.
Batting first, England scored 83 runs from their five overs. England openers R Hamilton-Brown and Peter Trigo both failed to gain any momentum and soon lost their wickets. However D Stevens got the innings to some momentum as he struck 35 retired not out runs from just 10 balls smashing four 4s and three 6s while he got good support by Chirs Read who hit 23 runs from just six deliveries including three 6s and a boundary.
In reply, Bangladesh looked good to chase down the target but in the end fell two runs short of victory. N Hossain scored 31 runs retired not out from 13 deliveries with the help of two sixes and three boundaries while S Rahman hit 28 from eight balls striking four massive sixes and a boundary but failed to give their team the victory they needed to stay in the competition.
R Hamilton-Brown captured two wickets for 14 runs from his one over.
In another match, Scotland reversed their misfortunes with an impressive victory over New Zealand.
New Zealand scored 88 for no loss batting first as James Franklin (33 from 11 – 6 fours, 1 six) and Nathan McCullum (34 retired not out from 11, 1 four, 4 sixes) gave them the perfect platform. However, Noema-Barnett and Woodcock failed to clear boundaries in the final overs as New Zealand had to settle for a total of 88 runs.
Scotland were never in trouble chasing down that target and completed the job in just 3.5 overs.
Openers C MacLeod (32 retired not out from 9 – 6 fours, 1 six), Mommsen (31 not out from 11 – 3 fours, 3 sixes), and R Berrington (26 not out from 5 – 2 fours, 3 sixes) completed the job well within hands.
In yet another match, Australia defeated Ireland by 27 runs.
Australia scored 107 runs in their five overs while Ireland could managed 78 runs from their quota.
