Heavy rain disrupted the play when Zimbabwe stepped in to chase the mammoth target of 174 runs, but for some unknown reasons their batsmen opted to play safe game. Zimbabwe were handed a tough task of scoring 90 runs from 12 overs, but another spell of rain further reduced the game to 5 overs where Zimbabwe were asked to surpass 44-run target, but they could only manage one for 29, thus falling short by 14 runs on D/L method.

Earlier in the day, Jayawardene once again showed his class when he struck the second hundred of the tournament after Suresh Raina of India struck the first one Sunday. Jayawardene hit four towering sixes besides smashing 10 boundaries during his 64-ball 100 runs innings.
