ICC MEDIA RELEASE

The ICC Board successfully held its second meeting of the year in Dubai despite the disruption to air travel across Europe. ICC President David Morgan and ICC Director Giles Clarke (England and Wales) were able to join the meeting from their location in London via teleconference.

Security Task Force

Chairman of the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Lord Condon reported that all the recommendations made by the ICC’s Task Force which looked into safety and security after the Lahore attack last year were now accepted with all Full Members having now appointed security directors and the ICC appointing its own full-time security manager in the form of highly respected Sean Carroll from Australia.

A series of mandatory security standards for international cricket are being drawn up and will be presented to the ICC Board for consideration in June. These mandatory standards are the only remaining recommendation still to be implemented. The ICC places safety and security as its highest priority and as such is implementing extensive security plans around the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

ICC World Twenty20 2010

The ICC Board endorsed the contingency plans being made by the ICC executive team to ensure that all players, team management, match officials, support staff and television crews and equipment can reach the Caribbean despite the ongoing disruption to air travel in Europe.

Ireland, Zimbabwe and host team West Indies are in the Caribbean already but the Board heard that arrangements were being made so that seven of the remaining eight affected men’s teams New Zealand are travelling via the United States could be airlifted direct to the West Indies from Dubai with the aid of ICC partners Emirates.

The ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: “We are doing everything possible to overcome the airline logistical challenges and we are extremely grateful to our commercial partner Emirates for putting forward a charter-flight option.”

ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012

Following the decision by Cricket Canada to withdraw as hosts of the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup 2012 earlier this month, the ICC has now invited expressions of interest from other Members to host the event. The Board agreed to consider proposals from prospective hosts in June and thanked Cricket Canada for the speed with which it made the difficult decision to withdraw as host so as to allow the maximum preparation time for the new host nation.

Prize Money for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

The ICC Board agreed to set the prize money for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to be held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at a record US$10m in order to reflect the importance of the ICC’s flagship competition.

Zimbabwe Update Report

ICC President David Morgan revealed that he would lead a delegation to Zimbabwe in June which would include ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat. The delegation will receive further updates on the implementation of the 35 recommendations of the ICC Zimbabwe Task Team which was chaired by Dr Julian Hunte (West Indies).

The delegation will also discuss with Zimbabwe Cricket the progress made in the reconstruction of domestic cricket and the prospects for Zimbabwe’s return to Test match cricket, from which they voluntarily withdrew in 2006, within the next two years.

Pakistan Task Team

The Board reiterated its desire and support for Pakistan to continue to play international cricket albeit at away or neutral venues. The Board noted the recent visit by Mr Lorgat to Karachi and also noted the importance of a resumption of bilateral fixtures between Pakistan and India as soon as possible as scheduled in the Future Tours Programme.

Other issues

It was decided that the issue of the ICC headquarters location would be deferred while the issue of the nomination for the next ICC Vice-President will now be taken forward by the ICC President, Vice-President and Chief Executive.
