Spot Fixing Trial: Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif found guilty of corrupt payments

LONDON: The Southwark County Court has found former Pakistani Test cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif guilty of corrupt payments and are likely to spend some part of their lives in British jails.

The jury had failed to reach a consensus verdict the other day but today 10 out of the 12-member jury believed that both of the players are found guilty of taking corrupt payments and now the jury has been retired where they will deliberate upon the punishments.

British legal experts told The Sports Encounter scribe that the process may take 4-5 days and charges of corrupt payments can lead to a maximum of seven years imprisonment while taking part or assisting in the conspiracy can result in some months confinement in British jails.

As per the latest reports, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have come back to their lawyers’ chambers as they await detailed verdict by the jury which will decided whether to detain or arrest the duo.

It is important to mention here that Mohammad Aamir and agent Mazhar Majeed have already confessed to their crime and now both of them have been called by the Southwark London Court next week when it will decide to arrest the accused players.
