TSE Exclusive: Spot fixing in India vs England World Cup match?
BANGALORE: The Group B match between two of the title contenders India and England ended in tie at the P Chinnaswamy Stadium of Bangalore here Sunday but there are number of doubts about sanctity of the result after its outcome matched a prediction made by former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne.

Shane Warne wrote on his twitter page earlier on Sunday, “Looking forward to the game between India and England today should be a cracker.. My prediction a tie !”
A tie what he said and that’s what the outcome of the match was. Whether it was a gut feeling or a prediction or even an insight information but it has shaken the confidence of cricket lovers in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
After the match, Warnie tweeted, “Can’t believe my prediction 7/8 hours ago was right – tie !! Classic, didn’t think it would happen but hey-not bad !!!! 2011-my year ! Lol”.

India and England teams scored identical 338 runs from their 50 overs after the match took number of twists during the England innings where after a solid partnership by skipper Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell the match turned completely in India’s favour in the 43rd over when England decided to take the Batting Powerplay.

England managed to score only 25 runs and during the process they lost four of their key batsmen including the two set batsmen. There was nothing changed in the weather conditions nor in the pitch behavior but all of a sudden English batsmen forgot how to bat. This led the cricket fans to think about probabilities of match fixing in the tier but cricket experts denied it completely saying match fixing is not possible in any match which has no result. However, they did point out some occasions in the match where they found some signals of spot fixing.
The 43rd over was the occasion when it all went berserk as English skipper Andrew Strauss took the Batting Powerplay and a sudden collapse then started which saw four of the English batsmen going back into the pavilion in a rather irresponsible display of batting. Skipper Andrew Strauss, who was looking rock-solid, was undone by a simple Yorker by Zaheer Khan which not even reverse-swung. Then Ian Bell scooped one into the air and went back in the hut. Paul Collingwood stepped out of his crease and lost his furniture on a straight length delivery. And finally, Matt Prior also got out to not a special delivery. However, English tail-enders knew how to bat. Interesting, isn’t it?
If that wasn’t enough, let’s take a look at some incidents happened earlier in the England innings. Andrew Strauss knicked two edges during his 158 runs innings and on both occasions neither wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni nor bowlers appealed. On the second occasion, Sachin Tendulkar did appeal after he heard the knick standing at Mid-Wicket position, but neither bowler nor the wicketkeeper heard it. Strange, Strange, Strange!

As an Indian fan, I must say it was a great match of cricket and there is no chance that the match was fixed.
Also, the england batsmen did not even attempt a second run on the last ball.

There is no way this was fixed. It is almost absurd suggesting that it is. Warne was simply saying it would be close. 2+2 together and getting 5 here I think….

The observation certainly has some grounds especially the ones who have closly watched the match really realized that somewhere somethign was not right at all. Gambhir changing gloves and then getting out on the next ball gives a lot of food to thought for the ones who have a brain.
@ Ben: Can’t you see, what Warnie said? He clearly said, “My prediction is a tie!”. He knew something about this match which general public don’t. And specially with the background of this so called legendary leg spinner you can easily make up your mind where he can get the idea from.
India is one big market for the bookies and I will be watching all the matches closely where India will be featuring.
India vs England match was a fixed match. A normal match can’t have so many twists. Very Filmy. Like I was watching Patiala House. Lollllzzzz.
To me if it was a tie its fixed. Look at it this way when the going was good MSD actually got himself in when it was originally planned to get Virat kohli, Virat is also a local IPL player and a crowd puller. He could have contributed more runs. Then when after India fell like pack of cards.
Its a shame that with 338 runs on the score board one would make it a tie. How can somebody like Munaf patel allow six in last over. The list is endless.
These matches don’t look like Live any more they look like WWF or any melodramatic reality show.

WEll on more than one occasions I was surprised how a clear cut out was not reviewed where every team goes desperate to use these reviews. Plus, there was no way England could be THIS close in 44th over rememebr and suddenly, the tail enders steered the team all the way BUT one run short? For someone who pulled off 36 off 18, getting 2 on 1 was simple common sense which they clearly showed earlier wasn’t lacking. FIXED for sure.

I was a late late fix, mr dhoni gave chawala 49 over and munaf bowled short piched balls last over, the bookies ruled the game again …..28 runs not a joke for seamers hitting at last …unless baby bowling by big bowlers.
I have a strong feeling the match was scripted. 2 clear edges from the bat not appealed. When even a semblance of doubt is there there is a huge Howzzat! Even when on one ocassion when the ball had hit both the bat and pad there was no appeal. As a close follower of cricket the outcome was not real! Some matches may change course drastically but Indian bowler’s are good enough to defend 31 runs from 12 balls, that too from an english tail. It was disheartening as a fan as many simple question went begging during the course of the match. God Save the Game!

It was totaly fixed edge and caught behind stumps not appeal by dhoni or zaheer, sachin was appealing 4 it. I think sachin knew the fact thats y he was out of the field whole match. He had score 200runs playing 50 overs then also he was fielding whole session.
Few of my observations (completely personal ones, no offence intended)
MS Dhoni – gave spinner the 48th over (2 sixers hit), even sachin can bold medium pace to fill in. batting order changed.
Gambhir – changed bat, got the message, out next ball.
Yuvraj – Man came in front of the sight screen, interruption (message conveyed), he is out.
Munaf Patel – weird short runup in the last over, hasnt seen him doing so in past.
Suresh Raina – (Best fielder) dropping catch, misfielding and giving extra runs.
Who all look clean :
Sachin – the nick appeal says it all. but no one else followed, not even the bowler.
Kohli – no reason to believe he was anywhere involved
Zaheer – only bowler looking to put his heart and soul in the match

this had to be the case.. the match was fixed but the anti corruption unit of icc wont rise up as its india and england, not pakistan. but the strength of my arguement is gradually proving the world that we are gona be placed into the final with aussies, who too will be demolished by akhtar n afridi.. watch that wicket in which akhtar bowled jayawardene.. and you are gona make a clear guess who else is gona be smashed.. yes man.. it’s Pakistan.. back on track..go afridi go…
yes guys …. it was definitely fixed … let me list out few points…anyone who has seen the match or went through the highlights can notice them …..
1. Strauss was out twice, nicked to dhoni off the bowling of Zaheer Khan.
Both Dhoni,zaheer,slip fielders knew it ..still didnt appeal.
2. Harbhajan dropped a catch off strauss at mid-on, intentionally.
3. Bell was given not out, even though he was plumb !!!!!
4. Mr. Shane warne, bookies close friend, knew it already, he couldnt keep it in his stomach ….. I pray that all the details of fixing in cricket world become public. So as people dont waste their valuable time watching fixed sport !!!!
Yes, it is a fix match as warne already told on tweeter, a high scoring match will be decided but match fixed already.
- why Strauss take Power Play when only 7 to 8 runs required per over.
- why Two set batsmen give their wickets in one over surprise.
- why collingwood play a poor shot he can stay and wait for other over
- why not take second run on last ball

being a cricket lover , m really sad about what happened in match between India and England, it does not matter weather u r Indian or Australian , one must have his support for right ,there are a lot of proves that the match was fixed ,but it wasn’t only fixed by Indian cricket team but also England team involved. Why dhoni did nt appeal twice for Strauss edge . why england player did not try for second run in last ball . its really a shame not for only india and england but also for the cricket world. it must b probe and give a big punishment to the guilties. shameeeeeeeeeeee
The match between England and India was fixed. There is no doubt about that. I reckon all the matches of India in this world cup would be fixed. They won’t be defeated because ICC wants to earn big from their matches. ICC is also involved in this crime and proves and evidences are everywhere to make up your mind about what’s happening in the world cup.
This probably is the worst world cup of all times because we all know England, India, South Africa, and Australia all have the history of match fixers and spot fixers. Some got punishment, some others escaped.

Its a blatant double faced display of hypocrisy from ICC and the sporting bodies of English and Indian cricket.
A kid, no seriously a kid can also deduce why so many blunders occurred in one single game of cricket. The match predictions on Cricinfo was going wild, set batsmen getting out on useless balls, catches being dropped, slow full length balls being bowled, continuous directions from the dressing room and as always the height of pathetic umpiring.
If all that can happen in a match then I believe that I can be the president of America tomorrow morning….yea no kidding, anything is possible!

I have suspected Mahela for many years. Not only him but many other Sri Lankan players.
It all started for me when Aravinda De Silva off the record told some people at a gathering that he took bribes. He also accused other lankan players and said many other players from other countries also do it.
And someone went and told the local media. He was interrogated and he denied it on camera. And it was all hushed up.

I was just going through websites on this issue and found few saying that the Great Lalit Modi (everyone knows his capabilities in IPL, and why he was thrown out) had also predicted the match will tie. Strange ???? but when two cricketing personalities can think same then there is something fishy there ….

what shane warne said was merely what aussies wanted. if england and india tied there is a lesser chance of them facing each other til later.
