Inter-College Women Cycling: Hina wins 1500m time trial
PESHAWAR: Hina Qasim of Frontier College for Women clinched the trophy of the 1500m time trials road race here Monday.
Hina clocked best time of 45 sec on the final day of the Inter-College Women Cycling event held under the aegis of the Directorate of Sports Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Women University Peshawar New Campus.
Vice Chancellor of the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Women University Professor Dr Farhana Jehangir was the chief guest on this occasion.
Principal of the Frontier College for Women (FCW) Nauzhat Liaqat, Director Sports FCW Raham Bibi, Assistant Director Najma Qazi, International Technical Official and former Director Sports PSB Din Muhammad and Director Sports and Organizing Secretary of the event Mrs Maria Samin Jan, teams officials of all the participating team affiliated with the University and players were also present.
Before the start of the thrilling races, Professor Dr Farhana Jehangir formally inaugurated the first-ever sports event organized in the newly constructed BB Shaheed Women University.
A total of 25 women cyclists from five different colleges affiliated with the University took part in the event.
Charged up in the recently concluded Inter-School Games at Punjab where she finished with silver medal for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the road race, Hina Qasim recorded best time of 45sec and was declared the winner in the Individual Time Trials Road Race of 1500m. Hina Nawaz, also from Frontier College for Women, stood second with time of 51sec while Rabia of BB Shaheed Women University finished third with time of 58sec.
In the Team Trial Road Race inside the Campus the teams of Hina Qasim, Hina Nawaz of FCW clocked 1 minute and 36sec of one round of the each cyclist, and claimed first position.
Rabia Zaman and Mehreen Khan of BB Shaheed Women University followed on second position while Government Girls College Yaka Gund, Mohmand Agency team comprising Nadia Khan and Humera Jan and Government Girls College, Gulshan Rehman including Huma Zafar and Zahra Alam declared joint third because both the team recorded same time of 1 minute and 45sec each.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Farhans Jehangir expressed her gratitude to colleges who took part in the sporting event held for the first time in the newly constructed campus.
She assured the players and officials that the University would utilize all its resources in providing a healthy and conducive environment during the Inter-College Games.
She also lauded the government for extending all out support to have first Women University in the Province.
She said work is currently continue to equip the University with modern-day need besides preparing good playing fields for the female students.
She expressed the hope that one day the University will be able to hold national and international events by facilitating the female inside the campus premises.
Later, she along with the players and officials paid a round to inspect the ongoing work at the under construction, football, basketball and Campus Stadiums.
