Velodrome for KP cyclists soon

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Syed Aqil Shah announced Wednesday construction of a velodrome, an arena for track cycling, to help promote the game in the province.

He said this while addressing the ceremony organized by Malik Saad Shaheed Trust in collaboration with Pakistan Sports Writers Association and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Writers Association to honor the newly elected Secretary General of the Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah here.

Modern velodromes feature steeply banked oval tracks, consisting of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights. The straights transition to the circular turn through a moderate easement curve, is the only facility in the country available in Lahore.

Beside him, Director Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board Tariq Mehmood, Secretary Malik Saad Shaheed Trust Amjad Aziz Malik, members trustees Ali Nawaz Gillani, NJ Mufti, Director Sports FATA Faisal Jamil Shah, Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Nisar Ahmad, international cyclist Murad Ali, President Khyber Pakhtunhkwa Basketball Association Din Muhammad, members of the Pakistan Sports Writers Association and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Writers and other participants were also present.

At the end, playing kits among cyclists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also distributed by Syed Azhar Ali Shah on behalf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association.
