The Australian will lead the BMC Racing Team in the new stage race, which will cover 833 kilometers between August 22nd and 28th.

The 34-year old Australian who joined the squad as world road champion in 2010 helped them earn their first berths in the Tour de France and Giro d’itailia. He is UCI’s No.1 ranked rider and has led his team to second spot.

“I feel that as a team, we have grown successfully together,” Evans said in a statement on the team’s website adding, “It’s been an enjoyable and satisfying journey so far. I look forward to the years ahead. We will keep working and progressing towards the future.”

George Hincapie, three time US road champ, has agreed to stay for another season, making it his 19th. “In George’s case, we need him to help the young guys like Taylor Phinney and Greg Van Avermaet keep developing. For everyone else, he creates leadership in the classics and at the Tour de France.”

The first time an Australian took the Yellow Jersey was 30 years ago when Phil Anderson bravely challenged Bernard Hinauit to siege the Tour lead, Evans was merely a kid at the time.
