Champion Trophy Hockey: Day 2 action rained out

AUCKLAND: Torrential rain in Auckland forced the organizers of Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament 2011 to postpone the Day 2 matches by a day.

The decision was taken by Bjorn Isberg Tournament Director after continuous rain made any action impossible on Sunday.

Bjorn Isberg said in a statement issued on the official website of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), “Due to heavy rain in Auckland and an unplayable pitch, all matches on Sunday 4th December have been rescheduled to Monday 5th December. As a consequence of the new match schedule on the 5th of December, some matches on Tuesday 6th December have also been rescheduled”.

All the eight participating teams were to be in action on Sunday where Pakistan were to take on Spain in a crucial match for their campaign in Pool A and Australia were due to face Great Britain while in Pool B Germany were drawn against Netherlands and New Zealand were set to fight it out against South Korea.

On Saturday, Australia beat Spain 3-2, Great Britain defeated Pakistan 2-1, Germany got the better of New Zealand by 2-1, and Netherlands outplayed South Korea 2-0.

The new match schedule (Time As Per GMT) is as follows:

Monday 5th December

10:05     Great Britain – Australia

12:05     Spain – Pakistan

14:05     Netherlands – Germany

16:05     New Zealand – Korea

Tuesday 6th December
