Champions Trophy Hockey: Great Britain beat Pakistan 2-1

AUCKLAND: The Great Britain continued their dominance over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament on Saturday when they came from behind to defeat the Green Shirts by 2-1 in their Pool A game at Auckland.

Pakistan were in search of that elusive Champions Trophy victory over Great Britain which they last recorded in 1994 when they defeated the Great Britain by 4-1.

Pakistan took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to a brilliant Penalty Corner strike by skipper Muhammad Imran, but defence-line failed to safeguard the lead as despite of brilliant show by Salman Akbar, the defenders failed to keep the possession of the ball and thwart the advances of their opposition.

After conceding the first half lead, England changed their game plan and increased attacks on Pakistan’s goalpost where Mark Pearn and Harry Martin scored the two goals that handed the Great Britain the emphatic victory over the Green Shirts.

Now Pakistan have lost three of their last 15 matches against the Great Britain winning eight of them while three matches were ended in a draw.
