The victory holds a huge importance as the golfers are heading into the all-important British Open golf tournament.

Donald was made to work hard by not the other competing golfers but the weather as the event was hit by bad weather right from the start.

In the end, the Briton won it in style with a four-stroke lead as he scored nine-under-par 63 in the third and final round for a 19-under 197 total which fetched him a comfortable victory over Fredrik Andersson-Hed of Sweden.

Rookie Scott Jamieson of Britain managed to get hold of the third position which also gave him the chance to play in the British Open 2011.

Luke Donald told reporters, “It’s nice to get another victory – I can get used to this. To do it on a links is even better and when I play well I tend to do reasonably well the next week. This was perfect preparation. It doesn’t get any better than going out and winning the week before. I’m going to be high on confidence.”

He stated, “Winning majors is a big deal for me and for the media and for the fans. With a 22-year-old winning a major and winning it so successfully, it deserves the attention”.

Talking about his approach to the game, Donald said, “I’m not a flashy player. I get it done and sometimes I do it the hard way, but in the last three or four months no one has really performed better than me. But sometimes, when you win a major like Rory did, in that fashion, it eclipses everything else. It doesn’t change what I’m doing. Obviously I still feel like I have a lot to achieve and I understand why some people would question whether I deserve to be the world No1 without having won a major.”

Donald said, “I am a much different player than I was back in 2003. I’ve had eight years more experience dealing with tournaments, dealing with pressure, and knowing that even if I don’t have my best golf, I’ve become a lot more patient. I think I would get very anxious and press too hard if I didn’t quite have my game and get frustrated easily. Now if I hit a few poor shots and make a couple of bogeys, I don’t really get flustered. I know some birdies are coming, that I have to stay patient.”

Double major champion Angel Cabrera, Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium, George Coetzee of South Africa, Italian Lorenzo Gagli, Mark Tullo of Chile and Austrian Martin Wiegele ended tied at third with Jamieson.
