Major League Baseball: Tuesday Round Up

CLEVELAND: The Major League Baseball season 2010-11 is in full swing with a number of matches being played and decided on Tuesday night. Following is the wrap up of some of the important matches played Tuesday.

Tampa Bay Rays edge past Texas Rangers 5-4

ST PETERSBURG: Tampa Bay Rays defeated Texas Rangers 5-4 as Evan Longoria hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning. The go-ahead two-run homer came just at the right time for the Rays who were trailing by a run.

Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota Twins 8-7

DETROIT: It all went to eighth innings where a tie made it anybody’s game but Brennan Boesch was able to break the jinx and scored the valuable run for the Detroit Tigers who defeated the Minnesota Twins by 8-7 here. Minnesota were leading by 7-6 after seventh innings after Justin Morneau hit two home runs but they failed to keep hold on the proceedings as Tigers had the last roar.

Washington Nationals demolish Philadelphia Phillies 10-2

WASHINGTON: Danny Espinosa had a dream run Tuesday when he led the Washington Nationals to a resounding 10-2 victory over Philadelphia Phillies as he hit a pair of homers for the second time in his career and also drove in four runs. In the third inning, Espinosa struck a three-run shot to complete the five-run outing then added another blast in the sixth innings as Philadelphia Phillies found no chance to get back into the contention. Danny Espinosa also had hit two against the New York Mets on September 6, 2010 and scored his 10th solo blast of the current season.

Cleveland Indians defeat Toronto Blue Jays 6-3

TORONTO: Cleveland Indians played out of their skins on Tuesday night to end a four-game winning streak of Toronto Blue Jays by defeating them 6-3 as Mitch Talbot won for the first time since April 11 while Grady Sizemore also drove in a pair of runs for the visitors.

Chicago White Sox beat Boston Red Sox by 10-7

BOSTON: The Boston Red Sox failed to pounce on the home advantage as Chicago White Sox recorded their sixth straight victory beating them by 10-7 here Tuesday night, thanks to Alexei Ramirez who tied his career high with four hits. Philip Humber also played a crucial role in the victory as he managed to prevent the Boston in the seventh innings. This is the longest winning streak for the Chicago White Sox since the “Go Go” Sox era of 1958-59.

Pittsburgh Pirates storms past New York Mets 5-1

NEW YORK: Pittsburgh Pirates defeated New York Mets 5-1 as James McDonald made a successful debut as starting pitcher while Neil Walker once again proved his importance in the team with two-run single in the eighth inning. McDonald only allowed one run and that came on an infield dribbler and New York Mets could only manage five hits in six innings against him.

Milwaukee Brewers beat Cincinnati Reds 7-2

CINCINNATI: The Milwaukee Brewers exhibited their best on a hot, muggy night to snap their losing run in Cincinnati by defeating the home team, i.e. Cincinnati Reds, by 7-2 as ailing Corey Hart homered and drove in four runs. Before this victory, the Milwaukee Brewers had lost their last six games and 12 of their previous 12 at the Great American Ball Park. The Brewers have had a poor road record this season as they are 9-18 away from home.
