Major League Baseball: White Sox end 7-game losing streak
TAMPA BAY: Juan Pierre played out of his skin to lead Chicago White Sox to a comfortable victory over Tampa Bay Rays by 9-2 at Tropicana Field on Thursday which ended a seven games losing streak for the visitors.
Juan Pierre, lead-off hitter for Chicago White Sox, showed his skills with great speed, as he bunted safely on a couple of occasions, and scored three runs banking on his pace.
It was his pace which forced the third baseman Felipe Lopez to throw a wild one thus allowing him to surge to third base.
In the third innings, Pierre was once again speeding as he safely bunted resulting in a nine-batter, four-run innings taking Chicago White Sox to 5-0 lead.
Pierre told reporters after the game, “There was a big guy on the mound, so I was like: ‘I’ll try to get some bunts down and try to create things’. If I’m struggling personally and don’t get any bunt attempts, that doesn’t work in my favor. I tried to make it a point today to go out there and get some bunt attempts, but to get some hits also. It worked out well for us.”
Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon was not happy with his team’s performance as he told media, “Eventually those add-on runs in the fifth and sixth hurt us, and that takes a little steam out of our momentum. I thought we did a lot of things well tonight. They just beat us.”
