MLB: Red Sox rally to beat Cleveland Indians 3-2

CLEVELAND: With back-to-back singles from Jason Varitek and Josh Reddick in the bottom of the ninth, Jacoby Elisbury stepped to the plate for a chance to give the Red Sox a walk-off victory against the Cleveland Indians, a team the Red Sox have had trouble with all season in the Major League Baseball (MLB) on Tuesday.

Jarod Saltalamacchia came in to run for Jason Varitek; a big payoff when Elisbury blasted a single to center setting up a play at the plate where Saltalamacchia just barely beat the tag, giving the Red Sox a very much needed 3-2 walk-off win.

With the game delay Josh Beckett, who had to loosen up twice, was taken out after just six innings and 85 pitches. A pair of home runs by Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall, Beckett was good at striking out seven and surrendering six hits.

As luck would have it Franklin Morales picked up right where Beckett left off, with two scoreless innings bridging the gap to Jonathon Papelbon, who pitched a scoreless inning of his own along with picking up the win.

Too bad for the Red Sox, Cleveland Indians were just as good, starter David Huff went five strong innings only allowing three hits and striking out five. He did allow one unearned run after throwing a curveball in the dirt, causing a pass ball with the bases loaded allowing Ortiz to score from third.

The Red Sox picked up a game tying home run from Kevin Youkilis in the bottom of the sixth and remained tied till Elisbury’s magic in the ninth.
