Pak snooker team gets Iran visas; awaits funds

KARACHI: Pakistani snooker players have got the visas for Iran to play a bilateral series against Iran but the Association is still awaiting release of special grant by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

This was stated by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) in a press release issued here Wednesday.

The release said, “The PBSA is pleased to inform the press / media that the Pakistan Snooker Team has been granted the necessary Visas for Iran. The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association is grateful to Mr. Abdullah Hai of Consulate General of Islamic Republic of Iran for his kind assistance in granting the Visas.

“All arrangements regarding the Pakistan Team’s participation in the above snooker team series have been finalized”, it stated.

Although the snooker team is still awaiting the release of the special grant to make sure the tour goes on as schedule. The release added, “The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association now awaits the release of the Special Grant required for participation from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB)”.

The following Pakistan Snooker Team will be travelling to Tehran on Wednesday 30th March 2011, by Iran Airways Flight IR 813 from Karachi Airport.

3. Mr. Muhammad Sajjad – Player

4. Mr. Shahzad Riaz Choudhry – Team Manager

The Pakistan / Iran Team Series will be played on the following format at the Azadi Sports Complex, Tehran.

The following format has been mutually agreed by both counterparts.

Each team will have three players; six matches will be played comprising three singles, three reverse singles of seven frames each; one point for each frame won; one bonus point for break of 50; two bonus points for each break of 100; points will be carried forward each day.

The championship will be awarded to the winning team on sixth and final day of the competition based on the criteria that the team who total is more than attainable difference taking into consideration bonus points also.
