PROSTEJOV: Petra Kvitova now has a Grand Slam title, the one she snatched from Maria Sharapova in July at a packed Wimbledon, but despite of hefty celebrations in recent times, the Czech champion finds no real change in her life.

Petra Kvitova will partner Tomas Berdych in the Hopman Cup 2011-12 later this year in the mixed doubles and is training hard after recovering from a thigh muscle injury.

The Wimbledon victory propelled the 21-year-old Czech tennis player to world number seven in the WTA rankings and now her next target is next week’s Toronto tournament before the fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open 2011 that starts at the turn of August.

Talking with an international news wire on Saturday in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov, the reigning Wimbledon champion talked about her life after Grand Slam title win. Petra Kvitova said, “The only change is that people recognise me in the street, they want an autograph or a picture. But I’m still the same”.

Showing caring side of her character, the 21 years old tennis player said that people regard her lot higher than they used to but she wants her feet to stay at the ground.

Kvitova’s coach David Kotyza told more about her friendly nature, “No success can change her positive and modest character. It’s rather a stimulus for her to work even harder.

Petra Kvitova has been the main topic of all the Czech sports publications ever since she toppled Maria Sharapova of Russia by 6-3 6-4 in the Wimbledon final on July 2, 2011.

Recalling her meeting with President Vaclav Klaus after a rousing reception by her fans on her return to country, Kvitova said, “I spent about half an hour with Mr Klaus, talking about tennis and sports”.

As a hectic schedule is right in front, Kvitova has got rid of her injury. Talking about her recovery, her coach said, “The injury has been cured. We have focused on her physical shape, because Petra played as many matches in the first half of this season as in the full season last year. I think she has not exhausted her potential yet”.

Kvitova said she hasn’t set any goals for the US Open. “I can’t tell you I’m going there to win, but I want to go as far as possible. I want to keep improving or at least play as well as in Wimbledon,” she said adding, “I hear the nickname (Lioness) quite often, it’s quite pleasant. After all, when I enter the court, I want to fight and win”.
