Berbatov hat-trick buoys Manchester United

LONDON: Manchester United pulled up their socks on Sunday to defeat their arch-foes Liverpool by 3-2 in an English Premier League (EPL) soccer match, thanks mainly to a brilliant hat-trick by Dimitar Berbatov.

On the other side, Chelsea remained in a great goal-scoring form against Blackpool, cleaning up the new entrants by four goals to nil.

The Bulgarian striker showed his class as Manchester United remained boss for the first hour of the match scoring two goals. However, the deficit was overcome by two beautiful strikes by the Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, who levelled the scores. Manchester United always have the firepower for the final minutes of the game which they once again exhibited when Berbatov completed his hat-trick just six minutes from time to ensure victory for the Red Devils.

Chelsea remained unbeaten winning their fifth consecutive match of the current EPL season as Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda (2) and Didier Drogba scored goals in the first half to ensure their victory.

Now Chelsea have 15 points from five games, four clear of Manchester United and Arsenal, who have 11 points each from five matches.
