Brilliant Hernandez guides Man United to CL QFs

LONDON: Manchester United joined Barcelona and Spurs in the quarter final line up of UEFA Champions League as they defeated Marseille by 2-1 in the absorbing second leg pre-quarter final played at Old Trafford Tuesday night.

The hero for Manchester United was again Mexican striker Javier Hernandez who scored twice for Red Devils in either side of the half time and took his tally of goals to 16 in the debut season for Manchester United.

Manchester United had a tough last eight minutes as own goal from Wes Brown in the 82nd minute brought Marseille right in the match. Another goal from French side was proved to be enough as two away goals would take them to the last eight but Manchester United hold their nerves and denied Marseille another opening. Manchester United won the tie with 2-1 aggregate and qualified for the quarter finals of UEFA Champions League.

Hernandez scored the first goal only in the 5th minute of the match and the score was 1-0 at half time. The Mexican striker of Red Devils Hernandez doubled the lead in the 75th minute.

In another match, Bayern Munich dreams were shattered by Inter Milan as they defeated them by 3-2 and qualified for the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League on 3-3 aggregate but Inter qualified on away goals.

Eto’o scored the opening goal for Milan in the 4th minute but Bayern came back strongly as they scored twice in span of just ten minutes to make it 2-1. Gomez equalized it in 21st minute while Muller gave them the lead in the 31st minute as Bayern finished the first half with 2-1 lead.

Sneijder scored the important equalizer for Inter in the 63rd minute and Pandez scored the all important decisive goal in the 88th minute to take his side to the next round.

In today’s matches, Chelsea will take on Kobenhavn while Real Madrid will play against Lyon.
