Carrick extends stay at Old Trafford

LONDON: The former Spur and current Red Devil player Michael Carrick has extended his contract with Manchester United till 2014 despite of having an average season with them.

The 29-year-old Carrick joined the Manchester United in 2006 after leaving the Tottenham Hotspur. “I am thoroughly enjoying my time at this great club. “There is a fantastic team spirit within the squad and I am pleased to have committed my future to United,” Carrick said.

Manchester United suffered shock defeat against the defending champions Chelsea by 2-1 last weekend that hurt Red Devils title hope.

“We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come,” he said.

Manchester United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson was happy with Carrick’s extension at Old Trafford and said, “I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract. He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham in 2006. He is a true professional and it is great he has committed his future to the club.”
