Chelsea, Arsenal record smashing wins

LONDON: Blackpool’s hopes of continuation of their dream start in the Barclays English Premier League (EPL) were diminished on Saturday when Arsenal outplayed them by six goals to nil at Emirates Stadium.

Champions Chelsea were also in a furious mood as they made the mockery of a sorry Wigan Athletic destroying them by the same margin of six goals to nil.

For Chelsea, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou scored two goals each as Chelsea’s forwards looked in great goal-scoring form, taking the team’s tally in their last three EPL matches to 20.

Arsenal vs Blackpool

Chelsea had devastated West Bromwich Albion in the opening game of the current season by 6-0 and hammered Wigan Athletic by 8-0 in the last game of the previous EPL chapter.

In the other match, Theo Walcott lifted the Gunners to a comfortable 6-0 victory over Blackpool by scoring a hat-trick. Blackpool were also dented a severe blow 31 minutes into the first half when their defender Ian Evatt was sent off for committing a poor foul.

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur

In another match, Tottenham Hotspur, who played a goalless draw against Manchester City to kick off their EPL campaign, recorded their first victory in the current episode of the EPL as Gareth Bale provided the impetus by scoring their two goals against Stoke City. Hotspur also got support when Stoke City were denied a goal as Jon Walters header was declared not over the line.

In the rest of the action on Saturday, Bolton Wanderers defeated West Ham United by a clear margin of 3-1; Birmingham City got the better of Blackburn Rovers with a 2-1 victory; West Bromwich Albion managed to edge past Sunderland by 1-0; but Everton had to contend with a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In Sunday’s game, Fulham are hosting Manchester United while the other Manchester side would host Liverpool tomorrow night.
