Chelsea regain form with Bolton battering

LONDON: Chelsea Football Club rediscovered their colour on Monday night when they defeated Bolton Wanderers by 4-0 in a Barclays English Premier League (EPL) encounter.

The victory has taken the Londoners close to the league toppers, Manchester United, and added some spice to the title race. In an away clash at Reebok Stadium, a ruthless Chelsea never let Bolton Wanderers take any advantage and kept up the pressure during the whole game, securing their eighth straight victory in the stadium.

The main destroyers for Chelsea were Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Nicolas Anelka, and Ramires. Interesting enough, Chelsea have scored 18 goals in the eight victories at Reebok Stadium but the home team has never scored in any of these matches.

Chelsea desperately needed this victory. They were suffering from a dull run at the EPL securing only 10 points from their last 11 matches and the two consecutive victories have propelled them to fourth position with 41 points to their name.

They are still trailing by four points to Manchester City who are third in the League, while Arsenal have 46 points and leaders Manchester United have 48 points with one game still in hand.

On the other hand, Bolton Wanderers have managed only one point from their last five encounter and now skidded down to 10th position after the horrific defeat against Chelsea. A 30-metre long kick by Didier Drogba in the 11th minute started the rout for Chelsea as they never looked back from that point.

Florent Malouda doubled the lead just before the halftime whistle. Anelka also took full advantage of a given opportunity in the 56th minute to further dent the home side while Brazilian midfielder Ramires concluded the night action with his first goal for the Londoners.

Drogba, Man of the Match, told reporters, “I took my chance, I had the confidence to try and the manager said to me to shoot when I had the chance”.
