Copa del Rey 2012: Barcelona beat Real Madrid 4-3 on aggregate

BARCELONA: Barcelona FC eliminated their bitter rivals Real Madrid from the Copa Del Rey 2012 after playing a drawn game on Wednesday night at Camp Nou.

Both teams scored two goals each but it was Barcelona who qualified in the next stage for winning the two-leg affair by 4-3 on aggregate.

Pep Guardiola’s men took the 2-0 lead before the half time but Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema scored twice for Real Madrid to equalize the affair but their efforts fell one goal short of the success in the end as the Copa Del Rey Champions are now out of this year’s championship.

In one of the best El Clasico affairs, the Barcelona came into the match with a 2-1 advantage over their bitter arch-rivals and soon their fans were celebrating two more goals despite of the fact that Real Madrid looked a far better side of the two in the first half of the match.

Pedro scored the first goal for Barcelona FC when he made full use of an excellent run made by Lionel Messi in the 43rd minute and soon the fans were celebrating as if they had already won the match when just before the half-time whistle Dani Alves doubled the lead for the Barca.

The second half started with Real Madrid getting their goal rejected by the referee thus initiating another buzz in the Real fans who have been accusing the match officials for giving favors to Barca during the last year or so.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up his game and was able to win back some of the smiles on his fans in the 68th minute before Karim Benzema struck in the 72nd minute to equalize the affair.

Last 18 minutes of the El Clasico were quite bitter where Sergio Ramos was sent off but Barcelona held on to their nerves and the slim advantage as they entered the Semi-Final stage of the Copa Del Rey 2012 awaiting their opponents where they may face either of Valencia or Levante.
