As per details, the Newcastle United have signed a five-year deal with Frenchman Gabriel Obertan, the north-east EPL club said on their website.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew said in a statement on the club’s website, “His best years are ahead of him which is exactly what we want at this club and with the backing of our magnificent fans I’m sure he will prove an excellent signing for us”.

The 22-year-old Obertan had signed with Manchester United in 2009 from French Ligue 1 side Girondins Bordeaux but failed to make an impact at Old Trafford as he could only win 15 appearances for the top English soccer club previous season.

The new deal will give Obertan far more opportunities to feature in the middle and the Frenchman was absolutely aware of what was in store for him when he said, “I spent two good years in Manchester but it was a bit difficult with the competition and I really needed a club where I could play more games. I know it won’t be easy to play each game here because there’s a good group, but I want a fresh start in my football”.

Gabriel Obertan is available to the club now for their opening match of the English Premier League 2011-12 against Arsenal on Saturday at home.
