FA Cup 2011: City win Manchester derby 1-0

LONDON: A disciplined Manchester City broke the dreams of Manchester United of clinching three big titles this season at Wembley here Saturday when they defeated the Red Devils by 1-0 to storm into the final of the FA Cup 2011.

This is the first time that the Manchester City have entered into the FA Cup final since 1981 and during the course they handed Sir Alex Ferguson another misery as his favourite man Paul Scholes was sent off in the 72nd minute of the match.

It is important to mention here that the Manchester United were without services of Wayne Rooney who completed his two matches ban with this match after he uttered foul language on a TV camera while celebrating his hat-trick against West Ham United.

Manchester City were also without their skipper Carlos Tevez who pulled a hamstring in the 3-0 loss at Liverpool on Monday but his side played like champions especially during the last hour of the match.

Yaya Toure emerged as the man that the Manchester City fans would never forget as he scored the all-important goal that separated the two arch-foes of Manchester. The goal also shattered all the hopes of Sir Alex Ferguson to collect Champions League, English Premier League and FA Cup titles at the same time just like the Red Devils did in 1999.

Manchester City will now have to wait for their opponent as Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers are fighting it out in the other semi-final of the FA Cup 2011 on Sunday. The two finalists will vie for the FA Cup title at Wembley on May 14.

City started off slowly and United strongly but with the passage of time the teams took each other’s side as City came out to be a better team towards the end of the Manchester Derby.

Manchester United would be ruing a couple of chances missed by Dimitar Berbatov in the 15th minute when he got two golden opportunities to take the lead within a minute but failed to do so.

Manchester United’s woes were further multiplied in the 72nd minute when Paul Scholes came up with a harsh challenge on defender Pablo Zabaleta which forced the referee to send him out after showing him Red Card.

The action didn’t stop after the final whistle as Mario Balotelli of City and Anderson of United indulged in a dispute which made United defender Rio Ferdinand to challenge Balotelli but his team-mates took him back thus defusing the hot-tempered situation.

The FA had already handed over the derby and the FA cup by sending the united coach off the sidelines for five matches and his prodigal player for wto. I think united has been the most soccer butted club in this campaign.
