Karachi United Schools Championship: Commecs College post first win

KARACHI: The 7th HBL Karachi United Schools Championship 2011-12 took an interesting twist in a match held Wednesday where Commecs College recorded a 1-0 win against a tough BVS Parsi High School side at the Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi.

Before the start of the match, Commecs player Mudassar Malik was remembered over his death.

The Group ‘C’ game started on a somber note as KUSC organiser Riaz Ahmed organised a Fateha prayer and both teams observed a minute’s silence before the first whistle in memory of Commecs College player Mudassar Malik who had passed away earlier.

Mudassar Malik, who had played for Commecs in his side’s previous KUSC game, died when he was hit by a stray bullet as a result of reckless celebratory gunfire commemorating the New Year 2012.

Commecs College showed great spirit as they took the lead after 12 minutes when Zain Raza scored to make it 1-0 against BVS Parsi High School. BVS Parsi attempted to make amends as the game progressed but poor finishing let them down as Commecs ran away 1-0 winners at the end. Referees were Babar Khan, Chaudhary Sarfraz, Mumtaz Baloch, and match commissioner Abdul Karim

The result put a surprising twist in the tale as Commecs College boosted their chances of joining fellow Group ‘C’ side Lyceum School in the quarter-finals stage of the KUSC 2011-12. Commecs College now require a win over Beaconhouse PECHS to confirm their place in next round instead of BVS Parsi High School. Beaconhouse PECHS has already bowed out of the tournament after 2 straight losses in the group stage.

Referee Babar Khan supervised the match while Ch. Sarfraz and Mumtaz Baloch supported him on the line.
