Karachi United Schools Championship: Nixor, Lyceum top groups

Nixor College held 2-2 by KGS, Lyceum School beat Beaconhouse PECHS 7-0, APS 3-2 FPS

KARACHI: The 7th HBL Karachi United Schools Championship 2011-12 saw results of three games on Monday at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, Karachi.

Lyceum School thrashed Beaconhouse PECHS 7-0 for their 3rd successive win top top Group ‘B’ in style. In Group ‘A’, Nixor College held rivals Karachi Grammar School (KGS) 2-2 to hold top position courtesy of better goal difference over KGS. Another Group ‘A’ match saw Army Public School (APS) edge past Foundation Public School (FPS) 3-2 to finish in 3rd place.

Lyceum School maintained their dominance over Beaconhouse PECHS from the start as Taha Rehman scored a spot kick to give his side the lead after just 7 minutes. Mizial Wahid made it 2-0 in 16th minute as Lyceum then scored 5 more goals in 2nd half. Sarim Shahid scored twice (45′ and 55′), while Saad Khatri (52′), Umar Aamir (57′), and Daniyal Aleem (59′) completed Lyceum’s 7-0 rout and top their group.

Defending champions, and 5 time KUSC winners, KGS failed to get 1st position in their group as Nixor College held them 2-2. Atif Sachak gave KGS the lead after 19 minutes when he headed home a Hamza Javed corner. Nixor responded 4 minutes later when Shehriyar Jahangir made it 1-1 after beating 2 KGS defenders with a mazy run. In 2nd half, Nixor made it 2-1 when Shehriyar’s shot could not be properly saved by KGS goalkeeper Usama Naeem and the ball entered the net in 39th minute. But KGS struck back through Bruce Pal 9 minutes later as he made it 2-2. The score remained same at the end with both sides on 7 points each, but Nixor College topped Group ‘A’ ahead of KGS courtesy of better goal difference.

Another Group ‘A’ clash saw APS finish 3rd with a tight 3-2 win over FPS. Army Public School raced to a 3-0 lead at half time thanks to goals from M Qudsi (4′ and 14′) and Momin Aamir (17′), but Foundation Public School responded through Ammad ul Haq as he scored twice (44′ and 49′) in 2nd half to reduce the deficit. But APS held on for the win to finish their KUSC campaign in 3rd place, and FPS in 4th place.

Referees were Babar Khan, Shaukat Ali, Farrukh Riaz, Chaudhary Sarfraz, and Mumtaz Baloch, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
