Premier League: Rooney returns for Newcastle United clash
LONDON: As their hopes of completing a treble were dashed by Manchester City on Saturday, Manchester United are now focussing on the two titles still available to them but the good news is that their top striker Wayne Rooney is back for their outing at Saint James Park on Tuesday.
The Red Devils are still chasing two titles in the current season which are English Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side is comfortably placed on top of the EPL standings with 69 points and they have still six games to play. In the broader European stage, the Manchester United are in the semi-final stage where they will face Bundesliga club Schalke 04.
Manchester United lost to their arch-rivals Manchester City on Saturday with their main striker Wayne Rooney missing the game as he was serving a two-match ban by the Football Association (FA) after he burst out foul language in a TV camera after completing his hat-trick against West Ham United in an English Premier League match.
Dimitar Berbatov replaced him in the FA Cup Semi-Final clash against City but failed to do the heroics expected from an in-form Rooney, but now as he has returned in the fold things are looking a lot brighter for Alex Ferguson and his boys.
Manchester United will play Newcastle United on Tuesday at St James’ Park where they are expected to bounce back from the Wembley defeat.
As Rooney is all set to replace Berbatov, midfielder Paul Scholes will surely miss the match following his Red Card in the 1-0 defeat at Wembley. However, Ryan Giggs is looking good and will return for the Red Devils while Jonny Evans will also make a comeback after serving his ban.
As far as the squad is concerned, it includes Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Rafael, O’Shea, Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Valencia, Gibson, Anderson, Park, Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Nani, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez, and Michael Owen.
The match will start at 07:45 pm GMT (0345 ET) where Newcastle United would be hoping for a sparkling performance to get something out of their below par season.
