Red Devils cash in on Chelsea, Arsenal defeats
LONDON: Wayne Rooney joined the ranks of Manchester United on Saturday and brought with him the much-needed luck as the Red Devils won their Barclays English Premier League (EPL) clash against Wigan Athletic by two goals to nil while table leaders Chelsea and Arsenal tasted defeat yet again.
Manchester United got the best result as Wigan Athletic were reduced to nine men due to poor body play by them, which gave Patrice Evra and Javier Hernandez to enough chance to register goals for their team.
The Red Devils have now joined Chelsea on top of the EPL table with 28 points as Chelsea were beaten twice in as many matches for the first time in over four years. This time Birmingham City defeated Chelsea by one goal to nil; their only try on the goal made the difference in the end.

Earlier, Tottenham Hotspurs made the mockery of a two-nil lead of Arsenal and got the better of them in the end beating them by 3-2 at The Emirates. With this defeat, which came for the first time at home to the hands of their arch rivals since 1993, The Gunners lost the chance to gain top spot at the EPL table.
With surprising results keep coming at the Barclays EPL 2010-11 season, an unlikely soccer club has stormed into the top five positions of the table. Bolton Wanderers have sneaked into the company of the top English clubs as they destroyed Newcastle United by 5-0 which means they now have 22 points and are above the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs.

Sir Ferguson would be happy with the fact that his side is yet to be beaten this summer. Talking about Rooney, Sir Ferguson was of the view, “Wayne got a great reception, that was very satisfying. It has taken a lot of pressure off him.”
