Both teams were looked under pressure right from start of the match. Joe Cole was making his debut for Liverpool in English Premier League and it was a debut which he would not like to remember in his career with Liverpool as he was served red card by referee in the 45th minute of the match for tackling Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny.

However, Liverpool wasn’t distracted by his absence as David Ngog scored the opening goal for Liverpool in the fresh EPL season in the 47th minute of the match. England and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard received the yellow card in the 73rd minute of the match. It was the first match of former Fulham man Roy Hodgson with the Liverpool as Manager and he looked completely involved in the match.

Arsenal were certainly missed their skipper Cesc Febregas in the opening match as he wasn’t playing in the opening match of EPL. Arsenal tried their level best to score the equalizer but they had to wait till the 90th minute of the match where Jose Manuel Reina scored the own-goal which made the score line 1-1 at the end of the match.
