Rooney ends goal drought
LONDON: After a dismal show for his national side in the recently held FIFA World Cup 2010, Wayne Rooney ended his goal-scoring drought on Saturday with a goal against West Ham United as the Manchester United won a Barclays English Premier League (EPL) encounter by three goals to nil.
Wayne Rooney had scored his last goal five months ago when he had scored in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final in March against Bayern Munich.
The goal came from a penalty kick as Rooney comfortably potted the opportunity with England manager Fabio Capello watching from the stands.
Sir Alex Ferguson told the Manchester United’s website, “He took his penalty well. But it’s his performance we should be talking about. He needs football, he needs games. These 90 minutes will do him no end of good”.
Rooney gradually came back to his groove as he was also involved in another goal for the Red Devils when he set up a clever push to Nani who made no mistake. Manchester United’s final goal came from Dimitar Berbatov which completed a good victory for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
After three games, Manchester United now have seven points along with Arsenal. They both chase down Chelsea who have nine points from their three matches, while a whopping 14-0 goal difference makes the real difference among the top EPL teams.
