Rooney opts for Manchester United
LONDON: The star English footballer, Wayne Rooney, sparked a new life in the Manchester United fans on Friday when he made a stunning decision of staying at the Old Trafford for another “Five” years.
Rooney had expressed his desire to leave Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils some days back but on Friday he put waters on all the speculations regarding his transfer to any other big spending soccer club by signing a five-year agreement.
The BBC reported that the illustrious soccer star was concerned by the quality of Manchester United squad and its strength and was not willing to extend his stay at the Old Trafford, but he made a shock U-turn which buoyed the Red Devils fans.
Not only fans but boss at the Old Trafford also couldn’t hide his excitement with the decision of the 24-year-old soccer sensation.
Sir Alex Ferguson said on the club’s website, “I’m delighted Wayne’s agreed to stay. It’s been a difficult week but the intensity of the coverage is what we expect at Manchester United”.
“Sometimes, when you’re in a club, it can be hard to realise just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand. I think Wayne now understands what a great club Manchester United is”, he highlighted.
“I’m pleased he has accepted the challenge to guide the younger players and establish himself as one of United’s great players. It shows character and belief in what we stand for. I’m sure everyone involved with the Club will now get behind Wayne and show him the support he needs to produce the performances we know he is capable of”, Sir Alex Ferguson said.
Wayne Rooney stated, “I said on Wednesday the manager’s a genius and it’s his belief and support that convinced me to stay. I’m delighted to sign another deal at United. I’ve spoken to the manager and the owners and they’ve convinced me this where I belong”.
