Rooney scores twice to keep United on top

OLD TRAFFORD: Star striker of Manchester United Wayne Rooney found some form on Tuesday night at Old Trafford as he scored twice in the first half to continue Red Devils reign in the English Premier League.

Manchester United were playing against Aston Villa and Rooney took only 50 seconds to open the account for Manchester United.

 

Rooney scored the second goal in the injury time of the first half as Red Devils finished the first half with two goals lead.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side equaled their unbeaten record of 29 matches in the Premier League. Aston Villa pulled one back in the second half through Darren Bent goal and the match became more interesting as Villa suddenly found their rhythm and continued attacking United’s goal.

 

Nemanja Vidic scored the third and final goal of the match in the 63rd minute of the match and literally chances of Aston Villa comeback perished.

Manchester United continued their top position in the EPL points table with 54 points with Arsenal following them with 49 points.

 

In other matches of Tuesday night, Gunners beat Everton by 2-1 as two goals in the second half helped Arsenal win the match as they were trailing by 1-0 at half time.

 

Saha scored the opening goal for Everton in the 24th minute. Arshavin scored the equalizer in the 70th minute while Koscielny scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute of the match. Arsenal maintained their second spot on the points table with 49 points.

Chelsea defeated Sunderland by 4-2 and took revenge of the November defeat. Bardsley scored the opening goal in the 3rd minute and gave Sunderland lead. Lampard scored the equalizer in the 15th minute through penalty while Kalou gave Chelsea lead in the 23rd minute before Richardson scored the equalizer for Sunderland in the 26th minute.

The match was played at fast pace as fans witnessed four goals in just 26 minutes. The score was 2-2 at half time. John Terry gave Chelsea lead for the second time in the match in 60th minute and Anelka finished it off with another goal in the 90th minute to give Chelsea most important win.

 

In another match on Tuesday night, West Bromwich Albion drew 2-2 against Wigan Athletic.
