Soccer: Premier League: Berbatov fit ahead of Arsenal clash
MANCHESTER: Manchester United got a great news ahead of their English Premier League (EPL) clash against Arsenal on Sunday as their main striker this season, Dimitar Berbatov, has recovered from his groin injury.
Dimitar Berbatov is the top scorer in the Barclays English Premier League 2010-11 season so far with 21 goals to his name followed by Carlos Teves with 19 goals.
Sir Alex Ferguson announced Berbatov’s return to fitness on Friday as the Red Devils train ahead of the all-important Sunday clash where experts are of the view that this match would decide who will be the EPL winner this year.
Manchester United are going to play this game at the Emirates and the next weekend they are playing the potential title contender Chelsea and in between these two important English Premier League clashes, the Red Devils will host Schalke 04 for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League 2011 semi-final.
With a hectic and tough schedule ahead, Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to make some changes in the team combination especially for the Sunday’s Emirates visit.
The latest changes will proved Berbatov to further stretch his lead over Tevez as he might replace Mexican striker Javier Hernandez who has been partnering Wayne Rooney in the front line.
Alex Ferguson told a news conference on Friday, “He’s (Berbatov) trained all week … he’s available. I’ve got a strong squad, I can make a few changes if I want to Sunday, I can make changes Wednesday also.”
Manchester United are chasing a record 19th EPL title and have started to receive good news just at the right time as Darren Fletcher, who has been ruled out of action for the past two months, has also recovered from a virus and will be available for the next games.
Ferguson said of Fletcher, “I’ll possibly include him in Wednesday’s game, maybe get 45 minutes out of him. He’s put the weight back on, he’s working hard in the gymnasium, he’s a great addition to the squad at this time of year having missed a couple of months.”
Chelsea have overtaken as the title challengers in the past six weeks as a series of drawn matches kicked Arsenal out of the title contention and Ferguson is quite open to the debate.
“I think that there is still drama ahead, the teams at the top will drop points, including Chelsea,” he said adding, “If we get to the last game needing to win (home game against Blackpool) to win the league I’ll be happy with that.”
Manchester United are chart leaders now at 73 points with four matches to play while Chelsea are six points behind at 67 and Arsenal have 64 points.
