Soccer suspended in unstable Egypt
CAIRO: Soccer authorities in the troubled Egypt have halted all soccer activities in the country until the return of stability.
Anti government protests have put whole of the country on a standstill with no sports activities could be made possible.
The Egyptian Football Association announced the decision in a statement issued on late Friday after the Association had to call off all the games of the four of its professional divisions including youth and junior competitions.
The decision was made after security authorities requested the EFA to call off all the soccer activities in the troubled country.
The Egypt Premier League’s 16th round was suspended last week after anti government riots engulfed Cairo and other major cities of the country.
Protests are gaining momentum on each day against President Hosni Mubarak who has been asked by the nation to quit a 30-year government. Following the call, riots broke out in the whole country between the anti-government and pro-government groups.
The decision was also taken after the United States had stopped its team to travel to Egypt for a February 9 fixture in Cairo. The EPA said in the statement that it will consult with the US federation to reschedule the game.
