Wenger urges Rooney to stay in United

LONDON: As Rooney decided not to extend its contract with Manchester United after 2012, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has advised Rooney to keep loyal with Manchester United.

Rooney’s current contract with Red Devils will expire in 2012 and sources told The Sports Encounter that the 24-year-old striker is already in talk with Real Madrid and Manchester City for his next move.

“Rooney is a great player. I am convinced he will stay at Manchester United because it is his club. They have the power to keep him. When you give a great player a rest, you have a story. Rooney is Rooney. He will stay where he is,” said by Wenger while talking to media.

It is also learnt that the relationship between Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney has bitterer after the recent scandal of Rooney beds prostitute revealed by British tabloid News of the World.

Rooney was also dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson in recent matches Manchester United played and it was told to media that Rooney had knee injury but Rooney denied that he had any fitness problems in recent times.

“I am surprised his contract has been allowed to run. But, basically, I don’t know why. It can happen many times. What I know for players like Rooney today only three or four clubs can buy him. For Rooney, it will not be a financial choice. He will decide if he stays. He would say, ‘Old Trafford is my home, I will stay there’. And Manchester United would turn up with the right number. He knows that. They know that,” he added.
