Saba Aziz wins Federal Cup women title

ISLAMABAD: Top seed Saba Aziz won the ladies title in 27th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2011 by beating second seed Sara Manzoor at PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.

In the first set Sara Mansoor built up the lead of 5-0 by hitting a number of down the line and cross court shorts. But Saba Aziz fought back and levelled the score 5-5 all by playing very consistent game from the base line.

Long rallies were witnessed from the base line during the match. The first set was decided on a tie break which Saba won at 7-5.

In the second set Saba again built up the lead of 2-0 by breaking second game of Sara and won the set and match at 6-3.

Muhammad Abid, top seed from Lahore, won the Junior U18 Singles title by beating unseeded Ahmed Babar in straight sets 6-1 6-2.

Abid won the first set at 6-1 after breaking third and fifth game of Ahmed Babar by playing serve volley game. He kept the same pressure in the second set and built up the winning lead of 3-0 by breaking first and third game of Ahmed Babar and won the second set at 6-2 by breaking fifth game of Babar.

In the Boy’s U14 event, Muhammad Mudassar from Jehanian took the title when he eliminated Hasnain Manzoor of Lahore in a well-contested two set match 7-5 6-1.

Aqeel Khan and his younger brother Jalil Khan advanced in to the Men’s Singles Final after beating their respective opponents in straight sets.

In the first semi final second seed Jalil Khan defeated his younger brother Yasir Khan in straight sets 6-3 6-3. Yasir could not show his class due to fever.

In the second semifinal, top seed Aqeel Khan beat Muhammad Abid in a one sided affair 6-2 6-1.

Final of Men’s Singles will be played Sunday at Islamabad Club.

Ladies Singles final

Saba Aziz beat Sara Mansoor 7-6(5), 6-3.

Junior Under-18 (Singles Final)

Muhammad Abid beat Ahmed Babar 6-1, 6-2.

Boys’ Under-14 (Singles Final)

Muhammad Mudassar beat Hasnain Manzoor 7-5, 6-1.

Men’s Singles (Semi-Final)

Aqeel Khan beat Muhammad Abid 6-2, 6-1; Jalil Khan beat Yasir Khan 6-3, 6-3.

Senior 45-Plus (Doubles Final)

Israr Gul-Inamullah beat Brig. Rehan-Brig. Saduzai 6-0, 6-0.
